Gents 1939 Longines Art Deco wrist watch
Gents 1939 Longines Art Deco wrist watch.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 25.17 (known as calibre 9L in the US), which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 5877398 dates it back to 1939. This serial number also tells us that the was invoiced on 18 January 1940 to the company Longines–Wittnauer Company, INC., which was at that time the Longines agent for the USA.
The watch measures 19.5mm wide excluding the winding crown and 34mm high excluding the lugs. It is a narrow watch so would suit a slimmer wrist. The curvex case is 10k gold filled and it is signed inside the case back, 'Cased & Timed in USA by Longines'. The case has the odd small mark but overall is in lovely condition.
The curved lens is in good condition.
The signed dial is in its original copper coloured finish. There is a little marking but not too detrimental.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
