Gaudy Welsh Plate Circa 1850-1860
For sale we have a lovely Gaudy Welsh or "Swansea Cottage" plate circa 1850-1860.
The plate is decorated in the columbine pattern with vibrant pink flowers in a central and three peripheral white panels on a dark cobalt blue and copper luster embellished background.
The plate is just short of 9 & 1/2 inches (approximately 24cm) in diameter at its widest point and is in an excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs. However, the plate does exhibit some very light crazing and a few of the firing faults one always expects in good old Gaudy Welsh pottery.
