Fine & Rare Compton Pottery St Michael Plaque
For sale today we have this incredibly rare Compton pottery plaque of St Michael. The plaque is cast in relief to a design by Mary Seton Watts and it features a dramatic scene of the winged and armoured Archangel Michael wielding his long sword above his head and slaying the seven headed dragon (each head represents one of the deadly sins). Please see my final picture which shows a painted panel at St Helen's 15th Century Church in Ranworth, Norfolk which was the inspiration for this piece. Superb glaze and an extremely crisp casting. Bears a Compton Potters Art Guild wheel mark to the rear along with it's original hanging ring.
Measures 18 cm x 11 cm and in superb condition, just a small nick to the side at the back to note.
