Early Prattware Sheep & Lamb Staffordshire Pottery %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a delightful early 19th century Prattware figure of a recumbent sheep and baby lamb dating from around 1800. The figure is charmingly modelled and attractively hand painted with grass green base and lovely sponged decoration to the sheep in ochre, blue and black. The term Prattware was is derived from the name of the inventor Felix Pratt. The light earthenware body is decorated in a palette of oxide colours comprising cobalt blue, yellow ochre, manganese, brown and a dark mossy green. The colours are applied under a pearlware glaze. The figure is in very good condition with a small repair to the left ear and minor fitting around the base.
A really Charming piece, circa 1800.
This measures 10 cms wide 8 cms high by 6 cms deep.
