Derby Salmon Coffee Can & Saucer c.1815
Pretty Derby coffee can and saucer set on a lovely pale salmon ground with painted circular reserves of finely detailed landscapes farmed with gilding and with gilded rims. The can has a sweet "Derby ear" handle. The named scenes are painted on the reverse, the saucer depicting the river at Windsor with the castle in the background and some boats in the foreground. The cup depicts a shore scene of three men preparing to set off in their boat, some sailing boats out at sea and some buildings and trees on the edge of the shore including a rather grand looking building just at the very edge of the painting the scene is entitled "Cow's Castle" (sic), Hampshire on the reverse. Red marks, c.1815.
The saucer measures 5 1/2" (14cm) wide and 1 3/8" (3.5cm) high. The can measures 2 7/8" (7.3cm) high to the handle, 2 5/8" (6.7cm) rim to rim and 3 3/8" (8.5cm) rim to handle. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. Surface wear is very light, just a little wear to the gilding. Christmas Posting we are posting up until Monday 23rd December!
