An extremely rare Circus plate designed by Laura Knight for the 1934 Harrods and 1935 Art in Industry exhibitions. Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Graham Sutherland and Barbara Hepworth designs were also commissioned. The plate is also a 'First Edition'. For complete accuracy there is some minor wear to the gold rim and a couple of tiny paint flecks to the red curtains. There has been a small professional restoration to a small chip on the back which is now invisible. A couple of minute flea bites and rough spots on the back are in fact kiln resting points which haven't been glazed over during firing. That said it really is a stunning and rare plate from 1934 and displays beautifully. No crazing or hairlines. 17cm dia
