Clarice Cliff Autumn Crocus Trio 1929 and 1930
Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and rare early hand painted ‘ Autumn Crocus’ Clarice Cliff demitasse coffee can, saucer and side plate.
This decoration was only used for a short period of 1929 into 1930 and then was replaced by the standard Crocus pattern and has the early stamp mark to base & 'crocus' handwritten in green. The impress mark for 1929 is just about visible on the saucer and the impress mark for 1930 is evident on the side plate.
This beautiful trio would make a wonderful Birthday, Christmas present, Anniversary present or gift for a loved one or a would make a fabulous addition to any ceramics or Clarice Cliff pottery collection.

Dimensions of coffee can and saucer:
Diameter of saucer: 10 cm
Diameter of cup: 5.5 cm
Length of cup with handle 7 cm
Height of cup: 5. 5 cm
Dimensions of side plate
Diameter: 17cm (6 inches)
Condition Report
Overall:
In overall good condition for their age of over 90 years. with age related wear such as yellowing, no evidence of crazing or cracks. There are some firing faults evident in all three pieces, this is common with Clarice Cliff, particularly with early pieces as she was given "2nd quality" blanks to paint.
The Coffee Can
In overall good condition but evidence of age related discolouration/staining around the upper section of the cup (inside and out).
The Saucer
In very good condition with no evidence of damage, an unusually good example. Very little paint loss to the crocus pattern. No evidence of paint loss to the crocus pattern a fresh, bright example.
The Side plate
In fair-good condition with paint loss to the brown centre and on the crocus flowers. Back of the plate: There is a white streak present and the plate is fairly marked and worn but still a good example considering its age and no evidence of crazing or cracks, which is often seen on Clarice Cliff pieces of this age.
Please check the photos carefully as this forms part of the condition report. Due to the fact that the pieces are hand painted the colour application is not identical across the crocus range and thus there are inconsistencies as a the plates were painted by a range of paintresses in the factory.
