Beswick Figure of Beatrix Potter's "Mr Jackson"
Offered for sale is a figure depicting the Beatrix Potter character of Mr Jackson modeled by Albert Hallam for Beswick.
This is an example of the first variation which was issued in 1974 and retired around one year later. He is a green toad with a mauve jacket and carries the Bp3a backstamp.
The second variation was issued in 1975 and was a brown toad wearing a mauve jacket. He had the backstamp Bp3b or Bp3c and was retired in 1997.
Mr Jackson appears in the Beatrix Potter story "The Tale of Mrs Tittlemouse" (1910)
Mrs Tittlemouse returns home to find her neighbour, Mr Jackson sitting in the rocking chair with his feet on the fender. Mr Jackson is a toad who lives in the dirty ditch below the hedge. He is very wet and dripping all over.
Mrs Tittlemouse goes around with a mop to wipe the floor. Mr Jackson sits there drying himself for so long that Mrs Tittlemouse is forced to invite him to stay for dinner.
