Arts & Crafts Aesthetic Ash Fitted Triple Wardrobe
A great Arts & Crafts Aesthetic ash wardrobe in the style of Charles Bevan and dating to circa 1890. Featuring a castellated top, flanking columns and planked doors. The front is beautifully painted with flowers and motifs and with burr walnut scumble painting to the canted edges.
It has a central mirror door flanked by two fielded panelled doors with original Gothic design brass twist-to- open handles, there is a drawer to the base of one hanging section and a shoe box with lift-up lid to the other. The central section is fitted with 4 sliding trays and three drawers and the trays could easily be removed to give extra hanging space. The internal depth is 50cm (19 3/4in) so the current hanging rails could easily be replaced by up-to-date full width rails.
The mirror is original and has developed that beautiful sparkle you only get in antique mirrors, it is in good condition but does have a slight cloudy spot near the top.
Condition This is in good solid condition and as should be expected does have marks consistent with age & use, in addition there are paint marks to the left side, old dark marks on the columns, and a narrow piece of moulding missing from the back edge of the cornice on the right side. In addition the fabric linings are well worn and marked and have some tears (but could easily be removed).
Please feel free to contact me for more photos, remember to include you email address.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width 204.5cm wide (80 1/2in)
Depth 61cm (24in)
Height 224.5cm (88 3/8in)
For transportation and moving this wardrobe splits into five sections (cornice, 3 long sections, plinth base).
Ref 0245
We can arrange to deliver this to most UK mainland destinations for £95.
