Antique Late 17th Century Oak Coffer antique oak coffer %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a late 17th to Early 18th Century English Oak Coffer.  Raised on short legs it has a doweled and pegged construction with chip carving to the front frame.  It has a two plank top with great patina.  The original lock has and it has been replaced by a beautiful hand made hasp and staple with great age and colour.  A lovely piece of good proportions.

When this piece was made the South Sea Bubble had not yet collapsed, Bonnie Prince Charlie had not landed in Scotland, Slavery was legal and we had not lost the American Colonies.
