This beautifully hand-carved boxwood mould was originally used in a traditional workshop for pressing or casting decorative motifs in gesso, compo, or plaster, almost certainly for picture frames.
The detailed Rococo revival design features scrolling acanthus leaves and a central shell cartouche, reflecting the ornate style of Victorian and early Edwardian craftsmanship.
With a rich, aged patina and the marks of workshop use, this piece offers both historical interest and aesthetic appeal.
