Antique 1915 State silver pocket watch by Tavannes.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed and it also has a US patent date of 24 May 1904 which relates to a patent in the name of Sandoz.
Cyma was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Theodore Schwob, in 1862. In 1892 they decided to go into partnership with Frédéric Henri Sandoz, owner of Henri Sandoz et Cie. The Cyma name was officially registered in 1903. Sandoz used the most modern of manufacturing processes and produced very high quality time-pieces, trademarked as Tavannes, Cyma and Cyma Tavannes. Their excellent reputation for quality meant that by 1910, Tavannes / Cyma were one of the largest Swiss watch manufacturers in existence. State, or Stayte, was one of the brand names used by the company.
The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is silver and has Birmingham hallmarks for 1915 with the case makers mark for the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case is in good condition with just light surface marks, nothing serious at all.
The watch lens is glass and is in nice condition.
The signed dial is in nice condition with only a small nibble to the outer edge at 1 o'clock.
The watch has its original blued steel hands.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
