A Swansea tureen & stand. Likely by Thomas Pardoe.
Description
A lovely Swansea creamware tureen, cover and stand, c.1800-10, painted with a botanical specimen of various plants ("Peruvian Turn Sole"/"Free Flax"/"Pendulous Catch Flie" (sic) and "Basil Soap Wort (sic)) and accompanied by iron-red hand-painted inscriptions. The paintings are faithful botanical representations. We believe that the paintings well be by Thomas Pardoe. The script used is consistent with other examples (including a plate we are also selling) attributed to him and the items are very well painted. Pardoe painted numerous botanical services for his employer, Messrs Haynes, Dillwyn and company.
Chocolate brown rim.
Please note that we are selling a plate of matching design.
Condition
There are two small chips-one to the inside of the inner rim of the lid and the other to the inner rim of the tureen-see the photos. Minor wear to the enamel and some minor crazing, invisible in the photographs.
Dimensions
8.5" wide
Payment is accepted by bank transfer, Paypal and UK personal cheque.
