4' Victorian Mahogany Pedestal Desk
A handsome and fine quality Victorian mahogany pedestal desk, of good original colour and patina. The top has an inset leather scriber with gilt tooling, a thumbnail mould to the edge, and is raised on two pedestals with graduating drawers and turned knob handles, on plinth bases. The top lifts off the pedestals for ease of transport.
Width 48″ (122cm) Depth 27″ (69cm) Height 30″ (76cm)
Kneehole Dimensions Width 18” (46cm) Height 24” (61cm)
Condition and Details of Restoration
This item is in original structural condition and is completely sound. The polish has been revived, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. The inset leather scriber is a replacement, and has been ‘distressed’, i.e. marks have been deliberately added to give the appearance of age. There are some old marks, knocks, and scuffs underneath the polish, as might be expected on a desk of this age, but nothing too major. As is often the case, the worst of these marks appear to the corners of the pedestal plinths as they get knocked by errant feet or chair legs in our opinion, the photographs are representative.
