1880's French Faience Country Redware Bird Bowl
#AD107:
......folk art, primitive, rustic, earthenware and beautiful. We love this hand painted, hand decorated folky old 19th century dark red ware slop bowl with a very wonderful and expressive little yellow blue winged warbler at centre. It is thick and heavy stoneware. Click our second photo to really see the depth and overall chunky feel.
The colour is a lovely soft and creamy off white, with slip decorated yellow, orange, greens, brown black and blues. Condition is very good with light even edge wear on the thick top rim, which adds to the charm. No chips or cracks or restoration.
Faience is tin glazed earthenware, and especially is used in the antique world for continental pottery made in France, Germany, and the Scandinavian countries. It is also often referred to as Majolica and Delft.
This beautiful old piece has the feel of the early France or French antique tiles or tile work. Antique faience tin glaze earthenware tiles are very highly prized by collectors, and this is of similar vein. It was found in Devon, Southern England, not really that far from France, as the bird flies.....
Size: 2.5 inches high x 5 inches diameter ——We have a 100% approval policy. For any questions, email Debra at the contact box below. Thank you, ~debra
