Worcester Blue Scale & Kakiemon Tea Canister
A lovely 18th century Worcester porcelain tea canister of ovoid shape with spreading circular foot and tapered collar neck, c.1765. Decorated in a blue scale ground with large reserves finely painted with bright Japanese style garden scenes in a kakiemon palette of iron red, green, blue and black with gilt detailing. Between the large reserves are a small groupings of "mirror and vase" reserves with smaller floral and foliate devices. The foot and around the lower part of the collar has gilt decoration which also forms loose and delicate frames around the reserves. Underglaze fretted square mark to the base.
It comes with a professionally fabricated cover which is very well done both in modelling and decoration, displays nicely and is clearly a significant piece of work to have created but it is not original to the piece so it will be down to personal preference whether to use it or not in display.
The canister measures 12cm (4 3/4") high and 7.5cm (3") wide. It measures 15.2cm (6") high with the cover.
Condition is very good. There is a very fine hairline in the glaze running at an angle down the collar, almost invisible on the outside and on the inside, it partly runs along an slightly indented line in the glaze so may possibly have been caused in firing. No damage, repairs or restoration and handling wear is minimal to either gilding or enamels.
Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
