William E.Harris 1860-1930 Watercolour Dtd.1896
We are offering for sale this large and detailed and beautifully coloured watercolour by the artist William E. Harris, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and dated it 1896. He has also inscribed it verso in his own hand 'Bermondesey'. The painting depicts a view of the Bermondsey skyline from the River Thames at sunset, as it was in Victorian times. The effect of the puffy clouds overhead is excellent and very lifelike. There are many Thames barges returning to the quays and, in the centre foreground, a steam tug towing a fishing boat.
This is one of a pair of watercolours by this artist that we are currently listing.
William E. Harris (1860-1930s)was a Birmingham painter in both oil and watercolour. He moved to Windsor and then to Broadway Worcestershire by 1893.
