A charming Victorian period oil on board depicting a lady at rest with a milk pail. The painting has the strange look of the lady being surprized and it may be that it is part of a story where she is met on the path home with the milk pail a lot of art of the period derived it's meaning from popular novels. The painting has a great deal of warmth and is mounted in the original gilt frame which has been regilded at some point but is in excellent condition as is the whole. C.1850
