Valentines Day Gifts For Her Stratton Compact
This is a scarce & delightful silver plated 1950s Stratton 'Princess' in excellent condition. The lid is decorated with an minutely detailed romantic scene that has the style of a lithograph. Such attention to detail! A gentleman leaning forward to whisper in the ear of his companion. Both figures are dressed in exquisite Elizabethan garments & they are seated within a luxuriously appointed room. The indented edges of this compact are engraved with scroll work. Lift the lid to see an excellent beveled mirror (two very small age spots on the mirror but nothing that would spoil the enjoyment of this compact) surrounded by a silver plated bezel engraved with 'MADE IN ENGLAND'. This compact is fitted with a self-opening inner lid a device that was patented by Laughton & Sons to prevent ladies from damaging their nails when opening the powder well lid. This mechanism is activated when the mirror is tilted back slightly.
The powder well lid is decorated with the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. The original smart black felt pouch, puff & felt edged sifter are in place. The silver plated base is decorated with the all over star design.
This vintage compact measures 7.5 cm & weighs 88.5 grams.
