We have for sale a very unusual deco period Solian Ware ceramic box decorated with fish.

This striking black ceramic lidded oblong box is decorated with a checker board border around ornamental carp in polychrome enamels. A different fish or fishes are depicted on each side of the box giving the box an almost fish tank like appearance. The base of the box is undecorated other than the Solian Ware makers mark dating the piece to about 1930.

The box is 7.5 inches (19cm) long, 4 inches (10.1cm) wide and 3 inches (7.6cm) high and is in a good condition other than some surface pitting to the glaze.
