An attractive unframed miniature watercolour of 'Grosvenor Square' signed by Sydney Maiden and 1954. It shows a grass covered open space with mature trees in full leaf, birds feeding on the ground and a large number of people including children and a baby in a pram enjoying the park. The Franklin D Roosevelt memorial and buildings on two sides of the park complete the image. The level of detail is quite extraordinary in a postcard sized picture.

Biography: Sydney Joseph Fabricius Maiden was a landscape and figurative painter in oil and watercolour. He was born in India in 1893 and served as an officer in the East Kent Regiment in both wars. He lived in London and later in Chipstead, near Sevenoaks, Kent. He exhibited in the 1930s at the Goupil Gallery, the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy. Sydney Maiden's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with a range of realised prices depending on the size and medium of the artwork. The record price for this artist at auction is 2,332 USD for an oil on canvas of Ramsgate harbour, sold in 2012.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. It has been protected by tissue paper attached to the back of the card. It would frame very well.
