Stunning Queen Anne Style Walnut Bureau Bookcase
Stunning quality Queen Anne Style burr walnut double dome bureau bookcase in immacualte condition. This superb piece of antique furniture was almost definitely made by Arthur Brett of Norwich around 1930. Arthur Brett started in business in 1860 and were re-nowned as the finest cabinet making firm in the UK, making some of the best pieces of quality antique copied furniture ever produced.
This particualar piece of furniture is completely hand made with every part and every drawer being hand dovetailed with very fine dovetails. All the drawer linings are solid straight grain walnut. The bureau section has four long drawers with moulded edges and feather banded inlay with nice shape engraved Queen Anne plate handles and escutions. The fall opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with drawers, pigeon holes and a central cupboard. The inside of the fall has an inserted leather with gold tooled decoration.
The top section has fielded and shaped panels to the doors with candle slides beneath the doors. The cornice is cross grain moulded double dome with the same at the ends with turned finials above. The top section is wonderfully fitted inside with many drawers, divisions, slides and cupboards.
In my view (as a cabinet maker myself) you couldn't wish for a better example, it is as good if not better than an original from 1710 and an aweful lot cheaper !!!
The condition is very good and the colour is also good, there are one or two blemishes as you would expect but nothing serious at all. I can't see anyone being able to make this today for under £20,000.
SIZE 38" wide by 20" deep by 86" high overall.
