Staffordshire Flatback Spill Vase Farmer and Wife
Dating to the mid 19th century this is Staffordshire flatback figure group as a spill vase (the tree trunk being hollow for the purpose of retaining the spills). The piece we believe is entitled 'the harvesters', it depicts the young man with a sheaf of corn and a sickle, the young woman a sack /bag gathered in her left hand and a sheaf of corn in her right. The bocage is on this model a textured application to the piece rather than a moulded and painted version.
Size: 8 1/2 inches high by 6 inches wide and 2 inches deep.
This is a nice pastoral group, not common and nice to find in good order. Overall the condition is excellent, no breaks, repairs or major losses, there are a few tiny surface scuffs to the glaze and the to be expected light crazing. Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
The Company is a distance selling business and as such abides by all current HM Government consumer regulations that apply to pre-owned, second hand, antique items sold online.
We welcome purchases from all over the world, however, we do not take any responsibility or pay for import charges and taxes that non UK purchasers may accrue.
