Solid Silver “Plato” flick clock
A rare mechanical digital antique clock by Junghans, in a conical solid silver lantern-style case.
These antique clocks date from the early 20th century, and were more commonly made in brass. Also more common was a flat top. This example, being solid silver and with a conical top, is much rarer. The case is stamped with the Birmingham assay office’s hallmark for 1905. It also carries the maker’s mark, CSG & Co., Charles S Green & Co Ltd trading then from Warstone Lane, Birmingham.
The movement is wound daily, from the base of the antique clock. It consists of two carousels of rectangular tickets printed with Arabic numbers, the upper carousel with multiples of numbers 1 to 12, and the lower one with individual plates numbered 1 to 59, the last one saying O’CLOCK. Each carousel rotates, such that the plates are released from a retaining pin at the appropriate time. The plates are double-sided, and flick from right to left.
The timekeeping can be regulated using a regulation slot in the base.
The movement has been overhauled and is guaranteed for 3 years.
