Small oak longcase clock by Baldwin of Faversham

An excellent small 18th century oak longcase clock from the County of Kent.
The movement is of 8 day duration and strikes the hours on a single bell. The arched full brass dial features Roman numerals, full Arabic minutes, seconds, blued steel hands and a profusely engraved date aperture. The makers name and place of work is engraved to the arch on a silvered brass roundel and framed with typical spandrels of the period depicting sea creatures. The corners also with applied brass spandrels of the well known urn design.
The well proportioned and small oak case has a plain base and stands on a single plinth. The trunk has a long broken arch shaped trunk door and a brass escutcheon to the lock. The hood displays reeded pillars terminating with brass Doric capitals and with plain quarter pillars to the rear. Also with inspection windows to the sides and a broken arch top.
Note: John Baldwin of Faversham (Feversham is the old spelling) was a prolific Clockmaker of watches, longcase antique clocks and lantern antique clocks. He also worked in Sittingbourne, Kent during the second half of the 18th century. This particular antique clock is of an unusual small size.
