Silver-plated Oval Four Glass Mantel Clock
A very elegant silver-plated French oval four-glass mantel antique clock, dating from the 1880s.
The oval case has been newly silver-plated in a bright soft satin finish. The curved beveled edge glasses are all in excellent condition with no chips or scratches.
The 4 inch white enamel dial has an outer ring with Roman numerals, and a recessed centre with a visible dead-beat Brocot escapement with jewelled pallets.
The eight-day circular movement is stamped on the backplate with the trademark of Richard et Cie, and numbered 875. It strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a bell.
It has a twin vial mercury temperature compensated pendulum, with a polished brass top and base.
The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
Height: 29cms
Width: 20 cms
Depth: 17 cms
Richard et Cie had premises in London and Paris from the 1860s. They exhibited carriage antique clocks at the Paris Exposition of 1889, receiving an Honourable Mention. In their advert in Kelly's Directory of the Click and Watch Trades, 1887, they say "All Own Made Goods are of Guaranteed Quality and bear our Trade Mark" . We are proud to be one of the UK’s finest suppliers of high quality Antique Clocks. We are based in Somerset, but also serve the rest of the UK. We are also delighted to have a number of overseas customers.
The workshops have recently relocated to Somerset and we continue to stock a large range of antique clocks and new clocks at very competitive prices.
We are proud to be members of LAPADA, the Association of Art and Antique Dealers.
Carlton Clocks is also a business partner of the British Horological Institute.
Ian has years of experience in restoring and maintaining clocks. He has a particular interest in early electric clocks. You will see from our Electric Clocks catalogue that we also manufacture and supply a small range of parts for Bulle, Eureka and Brillie electric clocks.
The mix of other clocks for sale is limited only by what Ian finds interesting and/or beautiful, aesthetically or mechanically.
