Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock Coates of Hamilton

This late 18th century Scottish Longcase antique clock is a fine example in excellent condition dating from around 1790. The clock is signed Robert Coates of Hamilton to the arch brass dial which has attractive scroll engraved decoration and a seconds dial and date aperture. The dial arch has a circular silvered plaque with signature which is framed by a fine pair of gilt bronze spandrels with wonderful detail depicting mythical sea creatures.
The face has a silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and the silvered seconds dial aperture has a very attractive and unusual 12 arch design. This is all framed with ornate gilt bronze spandrels with central mask detail.
The eight day four pillar movement is in excellent order running perfectly and keeping good time, striking on a bell on the hour every hour.
The elegant mahogany case has very attractive proportions making a most handsome clock with swan neck pediment to the hood which has attractive blind fretwork panels in golden satinwood. This has reeded mahogany pillars to the hood, a long arched door to the cabinet with key and lock and is raised on neat bracket feet to the base.
The clock has its original weights, pendulum and winding key.
This has fine proportions measuring 220 cms in height by wide by deep.
UK delivery can be arranged with our trusted antique furniture courier and costs £80 plus vat to most destinations.
