Scottish longcase clock by Mathieson of Leith
A very desirable Regulator style Scottish longcase clock.
The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and with a round painted dial showing seconds, Roman numerals, matching blued steel hands and the makers name above the number IV. The dial framed within a gilt wooden sight ring. The plain mahogany case of perfect proportions and featuring fiddle back veneer and a glazed trunk door with a veneered backboard. The glazed door displaying a pair of brass cased weights and a conventional pendulum. The plain base features a single plinth and to the pediment, a typical Edinburgh architectural top.
Note John S. Mathieson was working in Leith in 1880. He is listed as a Chronometer Maker and received the Reid & Auld prize for designing a Chronometer that could be wound without reversing their suspension.
