Samuel Deacon Longcase clock


A 30 hour longcase clock by Samuel Deacon of Barton-in-the-Beans (Leicestershire). Much has been writain by this interesting maker who with his family made many antique clocks though 18th and 19th centry. His antique clock are much collected due to his high quility of workmanship both in his 8 day and 30 hour work .
This simple but attractive clock is typical of many of his clocks and has the usual type of Deacon movement with pin countwheel striking . The front plate is signed TG29 which is for Thomas Gadesby who was known to have trained by Deacon . A clock signed TG 106 can be seen in the book English 30Hour Clocks .
The Oak case has much mahogany banding and has an architural pediment that was used by Deacon for his 30 hour clocks .
The well painted dial is the work of Wilson of Birmingham who is known to have suplied Deacon with many of his dials . Hands are of the none maching steel type .
