This is a superb, watercolour portrait of a handsome and very well dressed Regency gentleman, which is signed in the lower left hand corner with the initials S. A. written at angles to each other. The watercolour is a bust length portrait of a young gentleman of the Regency period. He is not wearing a wig and his hair is unpowdered, signifying that the period is correct. He is wearing a white, high coloured shirt with ruffles, a gold coloured waistcoat and a dark jacket with broad lapels in the fashion of the time.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to identify the artist from his or her initials, either in capital letters or in lower case as written in pencil on the back of the actual portrait. However, the portrait is beautifully executed in a stipple technique.

The painting is mounted in what we believe to be its original, substantial gilt mount and 1 5/8" water gilded frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
