Rye Pottery, Canterbury Tales, "Nun Prioress"
Offered for sale is a "Nun Prioress" figure. Part of the collection of Rye Pottery's hand-painted figures based on the pilgrims from Chaucer's renowned Canterbury Tales.
The gentle little Nun Prioress is the height of Simplicity. She is shown wearing a soft cobalt blue habit, her pretty coral Rosary beads are carefully matched with her slippers.
The Nun prioress is the only Female religious character in the Rye Pottery range of Canterbury Pilgrims.
"Full well she sang a service, with a fine
Intoning through her nose, as was most seemly
And she spoke dantily in French, extremely,
After the school of Stratford-atte-Bow".
The driving design influences for this collection are Neville Coghill’s translation of Chaucer's original text and the few illustrations of the Pilgrims shown in the Ellesmere Manuscript.
The perfect gift for Chaucer fans or medieval literature buffs alike. Their timeless quality allows them to fit into any interior style. Delivery Options (under 2kg)
Free delivery included to UK Mainland & NI.
