Restored c1940 Smiths Anglo Indian wall clock
A genuine c1940 wall antique clock with a very interesting history. This clock has an English made Smiths movement which was cased and retailed in India. It was imported back and fully prepared for sale, with a new dial (signed for us the retailer), and the movement cleaned and serviced. A good value mechanical clock with its original and genuine Smiths movement (unlike most of the 'Smiths' branded antique clocks on ebay and elsewhere).
As the market for wall clocks developed in India, the Anglo Swiss Watch Co marketed a range of clocks with different movements. This has a English made Smiths movement which would be been exported out en-mass and cased locally (to save on shipping costs). This isn't a lash-up of different antique clocks, it is an original and interesting genuine example of how the clock industry developed.
The Smiths movement has been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. The bezel (which holds the glass) retains most of its original chrome finish (popular for kitchens). The tin plate dial has been replaced and we've 'signed' the dial using special adhesive film rather than costly hand painting. The teak case is in good order with just the expected signs of age.
We can put your name and place of choice on the dial for an extra £40.
Dia 38.3cm, total depth 11cm. Dial diameter is 12in.
Shipping possible, please enquire.
