This compact is suitable for use with both loose & pressed / solid face powder or as a handbag mirror.
This is a rare Stratton 'Slim Convertible' made in the 1970s in very good condition. The lid has the most enchanting engraved gilt image of a flapper in the arms of her beau. Both of them dressed in luxurious evening attire. The engraving is remarkably good with the different textures of the fabrics captured - all shimmer in the light. In person the couple & the piano shimmer as you can see the fabric shimmering on image one. Minutely observed, every detail is captured perfectly, even the wood on the grand piano. The lid opens to reveal an excellent mirror which gives an accurate reflection. The powder well is inscribed 'PAT. 764125'. The puff is signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND' & the sifter has a pink velour edge these together with the black felt pouch are in excellent condition. The base has an engine turned design of tiny chevrons & vertical lines. It is signed 'Stratton England'.
This vintage compact mirror measures 3 1/4" & weighs 99.7 grams.
