Many collectors are all familiar with the wonderful Stratton "Scone" model, which was manufactured from 1948. They were made with inner lids. However, this is a different model, a very rare ballet themed "Scone without Inner Lid". The Stratton "Scones without Inner Lids" were documented in a 1948 Stratton advertisement but they were not listed in catalogues in the 1950s or else where. The "Scones without Inner Lids" were sometimes decorated with printed silk which was produced to look just like an oil-painting. This is one of these rare vanities. The silk lid has the most enchanting image of a young girl preparing for her ballet class. The lid does indeed look like an oil painting. Lift the lid & you will see a gilded powder well and a good mirror, which gives an accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed "STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND". All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The base is decorated with a fine spiral just like the "Scones". There are some slight signs of use on the lid but nothing that detracts from this highly collectible powder compact.
