Art Deco compact PLASSARD vintage powder compacts BOOK PIECE silver wedding 25th anniversary gifts
A rare silver plated Plassard 1930s compact in very good condition. This really could not be any more Art Deco! The exterior case has a bold geometric design. The compact is stylish & well made & contains the original puff held neatly in place by a clip in a compartment behind the flip down polished steel mirror. This
quirky compact as seen in Juliette Edward's Millers Powder Compacts A Collector's Guide.
The case is signed "PLASSARD PARIS. FRANCE" on the side & also below the hinge "BTE S.G.O.G. FRANCE PATENT PENDING U.S.A. G.B. DND".
I will borrow Juliette's description as I could not do better. "The simple exterior of this compact...belies its complex interior. It is divided into upper & lower compartments by a polished-steel mirror, the upper space having a clip to hold a puff. The powder-well has a hinged lid with a perforated transverse ridge, aligned with a plastic wheel near the thumb catch. When turned the wheel activates an Archimedian screw which lies within the ridge. The screw causes a toothed wheel to turn and circulate the powder, wwhile also raising powder from the well & forcing it out through the holes in the ridge onto the lid of the well."
The compact is in excellent working condition. As with most vintage drop down polished
steel mirrors there are some scratches on the mirror. However, it is still possible to see quite a good reflection.
This quirky Art Deco compact measures 2 1/8 " X 2 1/8" & weighs 79.7 grams.
