Rare Regency Chamfer Top Longcase Clock
A rarely seen small (at just over 6 feet tall) mahogany London Longcase antique clock with a chamfered top. The hood has a stepped chamfered top, a reeded frieze, inset brass edged quadrants, silk lined fishscale fret sides and canted edges. The cast Brass bezel has a deep convex glass. The trunk has an arched top long door, canted edges and a stepped molding base with a solid plinth. The 12 inch convex enamel dial is signed by the Maker James Tupman of London. The 8 day movement has an anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a bell. It has a steel rod pendulum with brass cased weights.
James Tupman worked at 44 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury between 1816-19, No.67 in 1820, No. 31 in 1822-42 and again from 1845 to 1856. He was the brother of George Tupman. G.and H. Tupman were Watch and Clock Makers To H.R.H. The Duchess of Kent & The Royal Family.
Current Condition
The case has been repolished, the dial has been restored, retaining the original ground, the movement has been serviced in our own workshops and is guaranteed for 12 months. If you would like a video clip of this clock srtriking please email us.
