A rare opportunity to acquire a boxed unused mid-century Kigu 'Bolero' Leaping Deer loose powder compact. This wonderful antique compact is decorated with an engraving style Kigu referred to as 'shantung'. Shantung is the name given to a type of silk used for bridal gowns. The pattern of the silk captures the light and its shimmering beauty is mesmerizing. The engraving on the lid and base does resemble the the silk which was historically made in the province of Shandong. The compact has never been used. It is a rare collector's piece with the original accessories which comprise of the presentation box, black felt pouchette,instuction leaflet, signed fabric puff and velour edged sifter. The whole item is in super condition. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives an excellent clear reflection. The inner lid is adorned with honeycomb guilloche engraving and signed 'KIGU' within the triangular registered trademark. The compact measures 3 1/2" and weighs 82.5 grams.
