Rare French Desk-mantle Barometer.
This stunning and original rare french desk-mantle barometer is something very unique. It is a pleasure to make this item available to the world. I have owned several good quality barometers over the 35 years of dealing and I can honestly say this is something I've never seen before. The barometer is made by the very well respected Naudet Pertuis Hulot & Bourgeois barometers. The company created in 1859 by the founders in Paris , Messrs Pertuis, Hulot, Bourgeois and Naudet, whose first name is unknown, started working in 1860 as Naudet & Cietrademark was "PNHB" which stood for their surnames. This company is still trading today in France.
This particular piece I date towards the early days of the company 1870-1890. The quality is outstanding and can be seen in the intricate spelter castings that decorate the brass case. I have taken the case apart to look for any further marking around the castings and case but unfortunately couldn’t. But while I was taking it apart and putting it back together the quality of the item and how it all fit together is brilliant. I have purposely not tried to clean or restore this piece as I truly believe it’s in perfect condition and maintains a beautiful patina. Please note…The small mercury thermometer tube has been replaced and is not original and as you would expect a few age related marks to the item particularly the base.
I have tried to include as much detail in my photographs as possible but this is something I fully recommend viewing if possible to appreciate in the flesh. If viewing in the flesh isn’t possible then I do offer video viewing via several platforms. The weight of the item is fairly heavy for the size of it weighing 4.25 kg and only standing at 15inches high.
As with all of my listed items If the asking price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the barometer free of charge to the English mainland, Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. I will also provide a 2 years guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads
If a lesser offer is accepted, then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
I will ship this clock worldwide.
Payment can be made by bank transfer, card or cheque.
