Rare First Period Worcester Coffee Cup & Saucer
A rare Worcester fluted coffee cup with ear shaped handle and saucer painted in the unusual combination of the Chinese style Compagnie Des Indes pattern in the centre of the saucer and outside the cup, and the Japanese inspired Rich Japan patterned border usually seen on the Quail and Jabberwocky designs. Unmarked, c.1780-1782
Reference: A teapot featuring this pattern pairing is illustrated in The Zorensky Collection by Spero, plate 299, along with a description of this rare mix and match style.
The cup measures 6.3cm (2 1/2") high, 6.1cm (2 3/8") rim to rim and 8.2cm (3 1/4") rim to handle. The saucer measures 2.5cm (1") high and 14cm (5 1/2") wide.
Condition is good the cup has a small chip to the foot rim and a couple of other minor nicks and frits. No other damage and no repair or restoration. Surface wear is also minor, a little bit of rubbing to the gilt corn ring in the centre of the saucer and to the gilt on the rims. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
