A rare and highly collectible Parfumerie de Fleury compact. The lid decoration is one of the most romantic scenes in mythology. The low relief adornment depicts the moment that the god of love, Cupid, revives the lifeless Psyche with his kiss. As Psyche wakes from the Sleep of the Innermost Darkness, she reaches up to her lover as he holds her tenderly. The scene is taken from the fabulous sculpture 'Amore e Psiche' by the Italian artist Antonia Canova.

This silver plated powder compact was made in the 1930s and the whole piece is in very good condition. The original powder plate is in place and it still has a tiny amount of pale face powder. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The mirror is very good and it gives an accurate reflection. The base is adorned with leaves and a cartouche signed 'VANIPACT de Fleury BRITISH MADE'. Measures almost 2" and weighs 40.7 grams. Free lavishly illustrated history of this piece included.
