Rare Chinese / Oriental Bird Wall Paper Paintings
A MONUMENTAL & RARE ANTIQUE CHINESE WALL PAPER PAINTING / WALL COVERING PANEL.
(Please note: I have a run of NINE of these most unusual paintings. They date to the late 19th century, are Chinese, and all feature White and Manchurian Cranes set within extensive landscapes).
PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS TO VIEW ALL NINE. They are being offered for sale individually.
This listing is for panel No. 1.
A flock of nine cranes rise up from a reedy wetland and towards a muted sun or moon.
Ink wash, chalk and muted watercolour on paper, laid down to hessian.
Outstanding provenance -
Owned by a leading British aristocratic family for 100+ years and recently removed from a famous and highly celebrated English mansion where they had been in situ since their import into the UK in 1890's.
These terrific paintings are aged throughout and with some damage and faults but with a faded decadence / majesty and offering multiple forward-use potential for those with imagination!
The paintings could be admired as is, or, slightly cropped down to remove the worst of the peripheral wear and tear. Alternatively (and perhaps more realistically) a great number of smaller works could be obtained, by framing individual birds or flocks of birds, and so creating a considerable run of more modest sized images.
These are an Asian / Oriental Interior Decorator's dream come true and in the right interior could bring a wonderful, atmospheric sense of faded - yet still decadent - late Dynastic China.
More photos are available upon request.
An unrepeatable opportunity.
