We Have the pleasure of being able to offer a lovely watercolour painting by the increasingly populare Lancashire early 20th century artis F. Cawthorne.
This lovely Lancashire painting of Downham Village near Cltheroe depicting a view from the village in summer looking toward Pendle Hill circa 1930. The watercolour is signed F Cawthorn in the bottom left hand corner and is presented in a replacement glazed frame.
This painting measures approximately 7 inches by 10 inches (18cm x 25cm) excluding the mount and frame is in an excellent condition.
About the Artist
Lancashire artist Frederick Charles Cawthorne, son of Elijah Cawthorne (Artist) was born in 1877 and became active as a painter around 1901. He lived in Clitheroe and mostly painted scenes around North Yorkshire and Lancashire. He was one of only a few good artists who painted scenes in and around Pendle and the Ribble Valley. His works are immediately recognisable, and much of the subject matter has changed very little over the past 80 - 90 years. As a consequence paintings by F Cawthorne are very popular with those who have an affiliation with Lancashire and the North of England.
Provenance: original purchase from the artist and then by descent.
