Pair of mid 19th.c. Elm benches c.1840. A true pair, 80″ in length, in solid elm throughout. Single piece 1” thick seats of fabulous colour and grain with rounded edges, on shaped uprights and ‘sleigh’ feet. Pegged construction with an unusual diagonal wedge into the tenon and a joining stretcher below the seat providing extra horizontal strength. Good mellow colour and excellent condition, cleaned and waxed.
