Pair of Early 20thC Gilt Plaster Pug Dog Models

1 of 5
The pair of plaster of Paris dog figurines of pugs being gilt decorated, and apparently unsigned, standing attentively with bemused quizzical expressions and having matching collars survive from the first quarter of the twentieth century.
Remaining in very good overall condition considering their relative fragility, the dogs do have some very small areas of loss to their gilded decoration and to the plasterwork beneath.
The pug is a toy dog with a wrinkly, short-muzzled face and curled tail. The breed has a fine, glossy coat that comes in a variety of colors, and a compact square body with well-developed muscles. Unlike their live counterparts these fine plaster examples do not suffer from a variety of health issues, including overheating, obesity and some genetic disorders and no care must be taken to clean the ears and the facial skin folds of these dogs.
All hail the canine enthusiast and all round good egg that desires little to no maintenance pug dogs on that there mantelpiece.
