A wonderfully ornate Edwardian fully hallmarked 9 carat rose gold locket. Gorgeous Art Nouveau engravings with deeply symbolic meanings can be seen on the front and back including acanthus leaves which symbolise enduring life. An elegant shield cartouche is inscribed with the initials HR or RH. The initials are so ornate that they enhance the appearance of the locket and whilst they can represent a person's initials they could also be used as a romantic acronym. The shield denotes a desire to protect the recipient. The back features an elaborate composition of acanthus leaves interspersed with ivy leaves and forget-me-not flowers. Forget-me-nots symbolise true love and respect. Ivy leaves represent fidelity, commitment and loyalty. This splendid Edwardian gold locket is paired with an ornate eighteen inch necklace, so that it can be worn immediately. Both items are in superb condition. The catches and hinges work perfectly. Both of the original frames, portrait protectors and backings are in place.
