Beautifully painted Swedish pine blanket chest c.1870. Flat (rather than panelled) top with ‘scumbled’ paintwork to resemble more expensive oak and burr walnut. Over a highly decorative front with three arch top panels with beautiful hand painted folk art flower detail against a stumbled ground within moulded and painted surrounds. Note also the painted frieze on the moulding along the front edge of the lid. Lid opening on long iron hinges to reveal useful storage inside with a small hinged lid compartment to the left hand side. Scumbled sides, painted base trim and raised on short tapering feet. Excellent condition with original working lock and key. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
