Newlyn School Watercolour Fisher Boy Aft. Caffieri

This is a lovely subtly toned Newlyn School watercolour, very much in the manner of Hector Caffieri 1847-1932, which is, unfortunately, unsigned. The painting depicts a young fisher boy, wearing a sou'wester, a scarf tied around his neck and with his trousers rolled up to just below his knees, trudging through the shallows, carrying what appears to be a spar from a ship over his shoulder, while clutching another piece of wreckage to his chest with his other hand. He may have been on the beach to see what he could find after a storm had wrecked a ship and his taking his finds back home for firewood.
The characterisation of this work is excellent and it is a shame that the artist did not sign his work, as there is nothing under the mount or on the back.
The watercolour has been newly double mounted in two-tone acid-free mountboard and is newly framed in a 1 1/8 inch soft bronze/gilt frame. It will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 9 3/8 x 6 inches - 23.8cm x 15.2cm
Frame size: 17 1/4 x 13 3/8 inches - 43.85cm x 34cm
Medium: Watercolours on paper
Provenance: Purchased in Cornwall
Condition: Excellent. There is no foxing and the mounts and frame are new.
