Compacts vintage gifts for her wives / moms / sisters / girlfriends. An enchanting mid-century Melissa musical powder box in excellent condition. The lid decoration is charming - an all gilt engine turned design with contrasting smooth tone floral motifs at each corner linked by a ribbon like border. In the middle a blank oblong cartouche which could be engraved. The edges and base also have an engraved design of tiny subtle wavy lines. The music box plays really well and it comes with the original puff & sifter. They are in good condition. The musical movement is Swiss and therefore, very reliable. The interior case is like the exterior, all gilt and shiny. The powder well wall is signed 'Melissa Made in England' in elegant script. The inner lid is held securely in place by the Melissa 'tear drop' catch. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a good, clear and accurate reflection. A very sound musical novelty compact. It measures 4" & weighs 169.1 grams.
