Miniature Painted Porcelain Plaque Worcester 1835
An unusual and exquisite painted porcelain plaque.
This fascinating object, of miniature proportions, depicts Worcester Cathedral and the nearby River Severn as viewed from Diglis Fields.
It is fully inscribed and dated verso, with a gilt 'RL' or 'RC' monogram, above the date of 1835, followed by 'Worcester From Diglis Fields 26/7 1834'. There is a further tiny monogram to the extreme lower right-hand corner, as shown.
Beautifully rendered with a wonderful sense of detail, including the architectural features of Worcester Cathedral, the rigging of a moored tall ship, and various figures seen boating, walking in the meadow and fishing.
This piece, of undoubted charm, is of strong topographical / regional interest to Worcester and is of potential significance to the Worcester porcelain factory.
The condition is very good. There is a small surface scratch to the lower right (over the pale sandy bank area of the river), but this is not too distracting. It has clearly been mounted in the reeded wooden frame for some time. The spot marks verso are from where the piece was originally fired.
Worldwide shipping is available on this piece, which is included in the advertised price.
Nb. If you're looking at this item because of an interest in Worcester Cathedral, please be sure to see another item I'm selling: an original artwork titled 'Three Choirs Festival' by leading Modern British artist, Leonard Rosoman.
