Mid-Century 1 Pt Fishing Tankard, Staffs, c.1950s
This is an attractive Mid-Century One Pint Ceramic Tankard. The tankard is decorated with fishing flies and the handle is shaped as a leaping salmon. It would be perfect for any keen angler to enjoy a pint from!
The tankard is made by Lancaster & Sandland in Hanley, Staffordshire right in the heart of The Potteries, and dates to the 1950s. The firm was founded by Frederick John Lancaster in 1887 and continued by his sons. In 1944 they became Lancaster & Sandland Ltd and finally ceased trading in the 1960s.
Condition is extremely good with no chips or cracks, no wear to the paintwork and just a light crackling to the glaze. It appears to have only ever had minimal use and has been well looked after. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tankard is 12.7cm / 5ins high, 12.3cm / 4.8ins from rim to handle and 9.7cm / 3.8ins in diameter across the base. It is 1 pint / 568ml capacity and weighs 420g / 14.8oz.
The base has the Sandland Ware handshake mark introduced in 1949 and continued into the early sixties.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
